Meet the Team: Dr. Joseph Hanson

My experience in various settings has given me a keen understanding of how all these modalities and levels of treatment can be used to optimize a custom and holistic approach to patient care.

Joseph A. Hanson, DO

Sonder’s growing!

And in the process we’ve welcomed some exceptional new members to our team.

To celebrate, we’re introducing you to the humans behind the many services we offer.

This week, we’re talking with psychiatrist, Joseph A. Hanson, DO:

Thanks for taking the time to chat with us, Joseph! Tell us a bit about your background prior to joining the Sonder team.

I have over 7 years of experience working in the mental healthcare field and am board certified in psychiatry.

I have a special interest in the field of addiction medicine and am an active member of the American Society of Addiction Medicine. I have experience with utilizing Suboxone, Ketamine, TMS, ECT, and Clozaril (REMS Certified) in addition to more typical forms of medication management.

Are you from Minnesota originally?

Yes, I was born and raised in the Twin Cities area and received my baccalaureate degree in Psychology from the University of Minnesota.

Later, I attended medical school at Nova Southeastern Medical School in Fort Lauderdale, FL and completed my residency at The University Hospital and Medical Center in Tamarac, FL.

Our psychiatry team is made up of well-rounded specialists. What are some of your areas of specialty?

In addition to providing medication management for adolescent (ages 12-17), adult (18+), and geriatric (65+) populations, I also specialize in addiction, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS).

What’s something you’ve learned from your various career experiences so far?

I’ve worked in many different settings, including inpatient facilities, residential facilities, partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs, and outpatient settings. This experience has given me a keen understanding of how all these levels of treatment and treatment modalities can be used to optimize a custom and holistic approach to my patients’ care.

When you’re not working, what are you most likely up to?

I enjoy spending my free time with my family and friends, listening to and writing music of all kinds, and– when time permits– playing video games.

Thanks, Joseph! We’re grateful to have you on the team.
