Telehealth at Sonder: 5 Fast Facts

Telehealth at Sonder: 5 Fast Facts

Telehealth is an excellent option for most people we work with! It’s safe, convenient, and effective.

You already know that our providers are ready to meet with you in our Minnetonka and Medina clinics.

But, did you know that accessing teletherapy and telepsychiatry virtually is also an option?

This is a unique time to be seeking emotional wellness care. There are more ways than ever before to find the support you need.

Today, we’re sharing 5 fast facts about telehealth at Sonder:

1. Telehealth includes a variety of services.

From teletherapy to telepsychiatry, telehealth at Sonder encompasses a range of services you’ll recognize from our in-person clinics in Minnetonka and Medina. While certain modalities (e.g., Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR)) and issues will require in-person visits, most others are appropriate for telehealth. We recommend consulting with your current provider to discuss whether telehealth may be a good fit for you.

2. Telehealth is effective.

Research strongly suggests that both teletherapy and telepsychiatry are as effective as in-person therapy and medication management. Moreover, there’s evidence that most people are open to and comfortable with accessing services this way (in fact, many actually prefer it!)– a significant factor is how successful emotional wellness care will be.

3. Telehealth is convenient.

Ever found it difficult to make it to your in-person therapy or medication management appointment? Most of us have at one point or another! One of the clearest benefits of telehealth is the freedom it offers patients to follow through with their care plan. With common barriers (e.g., childcare, time off work, traffic, gas costs, mobility issues) out of the way, many people find that keeping their appointments consistently becomes much more doable for them.

4. Telehealth is for kids, too!

Many people assume that telehealth is for adults only. But, fortunately, this is a misconception! Telehealth can be a great option for children, teens, and families! Often, appointments can be adapted (and even improved) with the use of technological components. Parents and caregivers tell us that they appreciate the flexibility this offers their family. And many kids and teens share that they actually prefer to access services this way.

5. Telehealth is (almost) always an option.

In addition to the exceptions discussed above, it’s important to note that telehealth is also not appropriate for individuals who are not present in the state in which their provider is licensed. (All of our providers are currently licensed in Minnesota; a few have licenses in other states. Please contact us to verify your eligibility to work with a specific provider.)

Otherwise, telehealth is an excellent option for most people we work with! It’s safe, convenient, and effective.
